What Am I Doing?!

This isn't really a "rant" post, but just a little truth about myself.  I am a procrastinator.  It's true.  I always have been.  I have so many plans, ideas, and "things I'm working on" that it seems I can never actually finish any of them.  I'm still "planning" on opening my Etsy shop this coming Sunday, but I'm definitely not as far along as I had planned on being.  I'm not going to open with as many items as I originally told myself I would, and I'm just now getting started on my product photography.  There's so much to do!  I need to learn how to plan and follow through better.  Between blogging every now and then, making my soaps, working 40 hours a week, fitting in my workouts, and figuring out how I'm going to afford a $350 electricity bill on top of the bills I already have...I fell WAY behind.  If I really want this to work, I'm going to have to kick it up a bit, and work harder.  It seems to always come to this, but I may be absent from the blog again for a while.  If I'm going to have a blog, I want to be able to devote time and energy into it.  I just don't have that right now.  I may do a post here and there (like I've been doing), but until I know I can devote more energy into posting consistently, I'm taking a break.

Here are some things I'm loving right now:

The movie This Is The End.  I've never laughed louder or longer in a theater.  And the end of it was icing on the cake.  That movie is f***ing funny.  Go see it!

Reading Game of Thrones.  Incredible!

I found this photo on Ebay a long time ago.  I wish I had bought it!

This Just Isn't For Me

Before starting it, I thought 30 Days of Lists would be a fun blogging project, but after doing it for the first few days, I've decided it's just not for me.  I do love to make and share lists, but doing it for 30 days straight just makes me feel like I'm significantly decreasing the quality of my blog content.  It's not an accurate representation of what I want my blog to be.  I think it's just one of those things that work for some and not for others...and I'm one of the others.  For those who are doing 30 Days of Lists, I am in no way saying that your blog quality sucks.  I really love the craftsmanship that I see a lot of participants putting into the list posts-and I think you guys are awesome!  This is just one blog project that doesn't work for me.

Now that that's out of the way.  Let's move on to other things!  First of all, Soap Cute is set to open in just 2 weeks!  OMG!  I'm so scared and so excited!  A few weeks back I shared my "goals to reach" before opening shop, and I am definitely not going to have as much done as I had intended.  I still have SO much to do, but I'm still going to be opening shop with a great line of products.  I'm holding off on adding my scrubs/lotions/butters to the shop until I have access to a laser printer for my weather-proof labels.  In the beginning I will only be selling soaps, but will slowly introduce a variety of other bath goodies.  I can't wait to share what I've been working on!

I've also begun a fitness/weight loss journey and am going to be tracking it on a separate blog as a way to keep myself motivated and accountable.  I'm really excited about it and can't wait to share more!  If you're interested you can check it out here.

In other news, an elderly lady that I checked out at work today thought I was in my 40's.  She asked if I graduated high school there and when I said no, she said her 43 year old son was in town for a reunion and wondered if I was going to be there too.  Wow!  I played along so as to not hurt her feelings, but I had a pretty good laugh after she left.  That's definitely a first! Hahaha!

I also wanted to share some movie-related love with you guys!  I have been anticipating the following movie since I first heard about it over a year ago.  12 Years A Slave.  The cast is incredible, and Steve McQueen makes THE MOST incredibly beautiful films.  His two others; Hunger and Shame, were both exquisite, and from what I've been reading-this one tops them all.

30 Days Of Lists // 5

My most recent electricity bill was a whopping $315!!!  I will be happy when things start cooling off around here.  I can afford it, but who wants to spend that much money on electricity?!  Not me!  It sucks, but it's worth it. I'm so much happier in a cold room than a sweaty hot one.

Making a living from home is my ultimate dream.  All I can do is work my ass off and hopefully someday it will come true :)

I've had my car for about 7 years now.  There are so many things wrong with it, and I'm afraid that before I save up a reasonable down payment...it's just going to give up on me.  None of my gauges work.  I have to guess at the gas level...as well as the speed.  I try to just go with the flow of traffic.  It's worked for the last year so that's good right?!  It makes lots of strange and loud noises.  I was once on the phone with my little brother while driving (I know-I'm terrible.), and he asked me if there was a helicopter in the background...it was just my car.  He thought that was pretty funny.  If I turn my steering wheel to the left or right, the volume on my stereo goes off and slowly rises back to where it was.  There's plenty wrong with it, but it's paid off and I LOVE not having to make a car payment anymore.  I dread the day that it dies...and I worry I won't have a down payment saved up for something else.

I am constantly thinking of what's for dinner.  It can get pretty obnoxious I'm sure.  I LOVE food, and dinner is my favorite meal of the day.  I recently started Weight Watchers though, and I'm going to worry less about what's for dinner, because I've decided to stock up on Healthy Choice Cafe Steamers...those things are AWESOME!

I use my cell phone as my alarm, and there have been a couple of times that it didn't work and I never figured out why.  I usually have my alarm set at 6:30 or 7:00, but I sometimes wake up around 5:30 or so and I just can't fall back to sleep because I'm worried my alarm won't go off!  It sucks!

I have always been one of those people who arrives early for EVERYTHING!  It's such a pet peeve of mine to be late...or when others are late.  It only takes me 10 minutes to get to work, but I leave the apartment 30 minutes before I need to be there.  You never know when traffic or something random is going to slow you down.  I try to be 30 minutes early to everything.  If I show up to a movie and the trailers have already started...I just won't go in.  Soooo...being late is always something I worry about.

What things do you worry about?

30 Days of Lists // 4

  1. Amazon.  I am an avid online shopper, and I do most of my shopping on Amazon.  I mostly buy books and movies.  I really get myself into trouble on Amazon.  If I'm not buying, I'm browsing and adding to my wish list.
  2. Modcloth.  If I didn't spend all of my money on Amazon, I'd probably spend it all on ModCloth.  I would love to do an entire wardrobe makeover with ModCloth.  I LOVE the style gallery!
  3. Pinterest.  My favorite thing to browse on Pinterest?  Motivation/Weight Loss pins.  Instead of spending time looking at motivation posts, I should get up and actually DO some of the workouts I pin!  Ha!
  4. Television.  I will admit.  I waste WAY too much time watching TV!  As I type this, I am simultaneously watching Face Off on Syfy.  (Is it still a time-waster if it's one of your favorite creative shows?)
  5. IMDB.  I am an IMDB addict you guys!  This is a MUST for anyone who loves movies.  I love to go there and see what my favs are going to be doing next.  I also love to read the trivia on my favorites too.
  6. YouTube.  Who doesn't love YouTube?  I love it as a tool for learning new things...but I mostly waste time on there.  Random funny videos.  I can't stop!

30 Days Of Lists // 2

I don't think I've talked about it yet, but my youngest sister is going to be having a baby this December!  She'll be the first of the three of us to have a baby, and we're all super excited!  I'm going to be an Aunt!  Yay!  I've been seeking out cute projects to make for him before he gets here.  If you have any ideas send them my way!

I've decided to spend my day off today working on my soaps!  I've got right under 3 weeks before my shop launches on the 22nd!  Right now I'm just concentrating on actual soaps.  I've run into a bit of a snag with my sugar scrubs and such-I may have to open shop without them at first.  I'd like to buy a laser printer so that I can print my own weather-proof labels from home.  In the mean time I'll work on getting the designs right.

I've also been wanting to draw more cartoons lately...this sort of goes along with making paper dolls.  I would love to make paper dolls inspired by my favorite movies/characters :)  They're so fun to make!

A while back I bought a bug collecting kit, and I've used it a couple of times...but I've come up with a different approach.  I've decided that instead of collecting actual insects, I could learn more about macro photography and start a "photo bug collection"!  It's going to be SO neat!  I love macro photography, and insects are my favorite subject.  Why didn't I think of this before?!

Are you currently working on any projects?

We Love The...

Soooo...last night my sister and I went to a Backstreet Boys concert!  O.M.G.  It. Was. SO TOTALLY AWESOME!!!

I was 10 years old when I first discovered the Backstreet Boys, and I can not believe it's been NEARLY 20 years!!!  Man I feel old!  I never got to see them in concert in those days, so I was super stoked when I found out they were having another tour.  I was even more stoked when I found out Matthew bought two tickets for my sister for her birthday.  I've been excited about it all month long, and it was so worth the wait.  You guys....I'm being completely serious right now...it was really awesome!!!  Here are a couple of clips (sorry for the shaky parts):

Oh how I miss the day of studying and memorizing those dances...especially this one!  Haha!

I think my favorite part of the second video is that about halfway through, you notice they guy dancing in front of us.  He was getting his dance on all throughout the concert.  I didn't do much dancing (I'm so damn shy in public!), but I did do plenty of screaming to make up for the lost opportunity of my youth.  I knew I would enjoy the show, but I didn't think I was going to come out of it as impressed as I was.  They did a really great job!  If you loved them when you were younger and you get the opportunity to see them now-DO IT!!!  It was a blast!

Were you into boybands when you were younger?  Did you have a favorite?

Summer Wishlist // 3

Can you believe summer is almost officially over?!?  School started up in most places this week, and Fall is right around the corner!  If I could put together an early/late summer outfit based on some of my favorite cool fun summer colors, it would be this:
  1. Southwest Fest Dress from Modcloth
  2. Trio and Try Again Rings from Modcloth
  3. Real Go-Glitter Flats from Modcloth
The pattern on this dress is so fun and festive and I would love to wear this to an outdoor concert along with a pretty charm necklace and gold studded tie bracelets!  Speaking of concerts, I get to live one of my pre-teen dreams and go to a Backstreet Boys concert this Friday!  My sisters birthday was earlier this month and Matthew bought her two tickets because he knows we were both big into them when we were in school hahaha!  I may not be obsessed with them the way I was then (did anyone else have their walls COMPLETELY covered with these guys?), but it's going to be a lot of fun anyways :)

Did you go through the boy band phase?

A Weekend Back Home

Over the weekend, I went for a visit to see my family back home and thought I'd share some outdoor photos I took while I was there!  I miss being in the country SO much!  Relaxing and catching up on a bit of reading on the bench swing outside at my moms was so nice!  I love the sounds of nature when traffic and city sounds are far away and can't be heard.  I think that might be what I miss most.
I'm not sure if I've mentioned it here before, but I collect Cicada shells!  I like to keep them in a little glass Mott's apple juice jar that I keep on my bookshelf.  While I was visiting I was able to find 26 of them to add to my collection!  I seriously felt like a little kid hunting Easter eggs :)  It was great!

While waiting for the 6th installment of the Chelsea Cain series I was reading (which I have become SO obsessed with by the way), I picked up Faceless Killers by Henning  Mankell.  It's book #1 in the Kurt Wallender mystery series.  It had a bit of a slow start, but the more I read the more I like it.  I'll probably pick up book two once I finish the final Chelsea Cain novel: Let Me Go.  What are you reading now?

I saw this grasshopper resting on the hood of my moms truck and couldn't resist trying to sneak in and getting some shots of him/her :)  I was really surprised that he tolerated me for so long!  He just sat there seemingly not caring about me being there at all.  He did finally turn and look at me and started swaying from side to side like he was ready to throw down if it came to it.  I guess he was really happy sitting alone in the shade there!

I'm so glad the weather is starting to cool off a teensy bit.  I think it's become tolerable enough for hiking again!  I can't wait!

Do you collect anything from nature?

Summer Wishlist // 2

What's pretty and teal with pink horses all over?  THIS DRESS!!!  And I want it.  Badly.  Not only do I think this dress would look so cute with these earrings and sandals during the summer, but it would transition really well into fall/winter outfits.  I would love to punk it up with leather boots/tights/and a leather jacket.

  1. Horse of a Different Color Dress from Modcloth
  2. Fudge From The Fair Flat in Black from Modcloth
  3. Colt Your Horses Earrings from Modcloth
I don't often wear earrings.  Actually, I have a confession to make.  I haven't worn earrings in at least a year...maybe two.  I've never been really big on jewelry, and so I didn't wear much growing up.  That and the fact that I have a nickel allergy.  I've had my ears pierced since I was a kid, but I've always gone on really long earring breaks and they end up closing up on me.  Sooooo a couple of days ago I was thinking about how cute earrings would look when I wear my hair up (which is most of the time).  I went out and bought some studs and decided to poke them through and give earrings another try.  It's been two days now.  I've been doing alcohol cleanings and have changed them out a couple of times, but oh my gosh they hurt!!!  I'm determined to see this through though and I'm going to keep this up for another 4-6 weeks until they're all healed.  Then I'm going to start stocking up on cute earrings like these little horses.  I can't wait to wear something other than studs!
Have you ever had trouble with ear piercings?

A New Feature: Man Crush

Okay, so I'm going to go out on a limb here and speak for myself (and HOPE that I'm not alone here because it would be a little bit embarrassing)....but I never quite got over the "boy crazy" stage of youth.  I've  since graduated and made the transition to what I call "Man Crazy" or having mass amounts of "Man Crushes".  Remember the days of boy bands and being excited to collect posters from the next issue of Tiger Beat magazine?  I really wish I had photos to share with you of what my bedroom looked like as a little girl.  It would have been really fun to share for this post!  Covered from floor to ceiling in posters of my favorite guys-that's what it looked like!  I don't have posters of hot celebs adorning my walls these days, but I am guilty of dedicating a wall of my previous work-space to what I called "The Man Wall".  It was silly and fun and kept us girls entertained.  Here's a peek of that wall actually:
Since I no longer have a "Man Wall" at my workplace, I'm going to share my current crushes here instead!  I've considered having a feature like this before, and decided that I'd give it a shot after an experience I had late last week.  I'm going to let you know ahead of time that I'm somewhat embarrassed about what I'm about to share, but I've been laughing about it for the past few days so maybe you'll get a laugh in too.  So here we go:
I was at work when a co-worker came in saying that one of the roads around the corner was blocked off due to filming.  When I asked what was being filmed and she responded "a movie", my first thought was that it must be a local movie because there's not a lot of movie filming action going on here.  So I asked her if there was anyone in it that we would recognize and she said "Well it has that one guy from that old show Hercules..." at which point I blurted out in an embarrassingly excited and loud voice "KEVIN SORBO IS BACK THERE?!?!?!"  I immediately started laughing at myself because I knew how ridiculous I must have sounded.  When I was 9 or 10 I watched Hercules religiously and he was probably my first celebrity crush.  Yes.  I know.  Laugh it up!  It was him and Lorenzo Lamas from Renegade.  Yes.  I know.  Laugh it up some more!  Apparently I had a thing for tanned muscle men with long hair.  If you've never seen either of these shows, you have to AT LEAST watch the intros so you can understand why you should be "laughing it up".  Prepare yourself...these are pretty corny!

I hope you look forward to seeing who I share in upcoming Man Crush posts...I think it's going to be a lot of fun!

Who did you have crushes on when you were younger?

Summer Wishlist // 1

I would absolutely hate to have to show you guys my closet right now.  I don't think it's EVER been so messy before.  I've fallen into one of those "I need to throw everything in my closet away and restock it with new stuff that looks like 'ME'" kind of moods.  I don't feel like anything that I currently have in my wardrobe reflects my personal style at all.  Okay maybe that's a bit of an exaggeration.  I do have a few things that I love...but I wear the same three outfits constantly!  I'm not kidding!  We go to the movies and the bookstore on a pretty regular basis, and I'd be really surprised if the people working there don't know me by my outfits by now.  I really love wearing red and black together, and I think this collared checkered top would be so cute with the high waisted red skirt and black sandals.  It would be the perfect outfit for a drive-in movie date!

  1. Barn To Be Wild Top from Modcloth
  2. Fudge From the Fair Flat in Black from Modcloth
  3. Breathtaking Tiger Lilies Skirt in Merlot from Modcloth
Doing outfit photos on the blog has always been something I've wanted to do, but I have a difficult time taking self portraits.  As I mentioned above, I'm also lacking a bit in the wardrobe department at the moment.  I'm not sure that it's evident by my usual blog content, but I really am interested in makeup, cute clothes, and girly things in general.  It's a side of me that I'd like to share more of.  I intend on doing that at some point, and hopefully sooner rather than later.  Until I start posting What I Wore photos, doing these little wish lists will be a great place for me to start.  Inspiration, ideas, and a little encouragement are all I need!  Speaking of inspiration and ideas, I'm really looking forward to picking up a copy of A Beautiful Mess Photo Idea Book by Elsie & Emma.  I think it's going to be a fun read and really pretty to look at too!  In case you didn't know, it was released today!

Do you do outfit posts on your blog?

Shark Week: Wish List

Well, it's the last day of shark week here on the blog.  Soooo I'll go out with a few sharky things on my wish list right now!  How awesome is this Great White Shark Anatomy Model!???  I would love to have that displayed on a shelf in my room!
4D Shark Anatomy Figure
I don't know about you, but I LOVE jigsaw puzzles! And this one looks pretty damn awesome!   It's also on the inexpensive side, so I may pick this up soon.  I'd love to finish it, ModPodge it, and frame it to hang up.
Sharks Jigsaw Puzzle
Okay, so this next one isn't really on my wish list...because I already have it!  This was one of my favorite games when I was little.  My sister, cousin, and I used to play it CONSTANTLY!  It has a motorized shark head that slowly goes around the board.  You roll the dice to move, but if it doesn't land on your color, then your fish can't move forward before the shark eats it!  It gets really exciting, and maybe it's just the little kid in me....but I totally get jumpy and anxious while playing this game hahaha.  It's simple and doesn't require any sort of knowledge or skill AT ALL, but I still think it's a great game and a lot of fun :)
Shark Attack Board Game
Do you have anything sharky on your wish list?

Shark Week: Berkley Illustration

Great White Shark & Hammerhead Shark

Of all of the artists I've discovered on Etsy, I can say without hesitation that my all time favorite illustration artist is Ryan of Berkley Illustration.  I absolute adore his subject matter, and I'm also a huge fan of anthropomorphism.  It's not wonder I love his work!  I also love these:

I love the contents in these See-Thru sharks bellies!  I think my favorite is the bottom one because of the knights helmet!

Do you have a favorite illustration artist?

Shark Week: Tattoo Flash

I would love to get a shark tattoo, and have a few ideas that I'd like to get next year during shark week.  I tend to be very impulsive when thinking of tattoo ideas, and so I'd like to have plenty of time to think of this one before actually getting it.  Although the tattoo art I'm posting today doesn't reflect the type of tattoo I'd like to get, I still think these are pretty darn awesome!  Who knows, by this time next year I may want something more along the likes of these!
Watercolor Illustrations by Aaily Rose

Watercolor Illustrations by Aaily Rose

I had to include the second one because it features the Jaguar Shark I mentioned in yesterdays post.  I love all of these so much!

Of all of the images above, what's your favorite?

Shark Week: The Life Aquatic

If you've never seen The Life Aquatic, I highly recommend seeing it.  The colors, the characters, the dialogue, the music, and the storylines of Wes Anderson's films are all just so much fun! This one is a definite favorite though!  So how exactly does The Life Aquatic fit in with the theme of Shark Week?  The Jaguar Shark of course!

I hope you're all having a fantastic Tuesday!

Shark Week: Illustration Love

I can't believe Shark Week is here already!  I look forward to it every year and I'm excited to share all of my favorite shark bits with you this week!  To start things off, I decided to share a few really neat illustrations I found over the weekend!

Royal Sharks: Shark King & Hammerhead Shark Queen by Sam Georgieff of Poor Dog Farm
I love the theme of these two.  What a fun idea!  I would LOVE to have these hanging in my apartment somewhere-they would always put a smile on my face :)
Fossil Shark Teeth Scientific Illustration by David Scheirer of Studio Tuesday

Aren't these amazing?!?  If I lived near the beach, I would love searching for shark teeth!  Did you know that sharks lose a lot of teeth, but always grow them back?  They typically go through 30,000 teeth in their lifetime!  Neat!

By the way, the winner of last weeks giveaway is Nicole of Gypsy in Jasper!  Congrats Nicole!

Q&A // 2

I'm back for another round of fun questions!  I really like this weeks group of questions and had fun answering them.  If you do this on your blog let me know!  I'd love to read your answers!

What's the most random fact that you have never forgot?
This is really neat actually:  Nine-Banded Armadillos always give birth to a litter of four identical armadillo pups.  They all generate from the same egg and are all the same sex.

What is the funniest thing you ever heard a kid say?
"Mom, granny was a whore"-words from my then 4 year old brother....what he really meant to say was "hoarder".  He had seen an episode of Hoarders at my grandmothers house, and she had mentioned that our great-grandmother could have been on that show (and it's true-I remember visiting her when I was a kid).  When my mom asked what he was talking about he then explained to her that Granny liked to keep things and never threw any of it away and that you had a hard time getting around anything in her house.

What is your favorite movie soundtrack?
American Graffiti for sure :)

What is your worst injury and how did you get it?
When I was about 12 I had this crazy idea that I could jump a barbed wire fence.  I'm sure you can guess how it ended.  My right leg made it over.  I can't say the same for the other.  I can not tell you why I thought this was a good idea at the time.  It just doesn't make sense.  I walked to my grandmas house and she took me to the hospital.  I got a tetanus shot and surprisingly NO stitches.  It really did need stitches though and took forever to fully heal.  I now have a 4-5 inch scar as wide as my finger on the inside of my left thigh.  I was really proud to show it off at school the next day though-I was such a tomboy hahahaha!

What is the most stupid-fun you have had?  What were you doing?
Doing the Time Warp with my sister and friends in the living room one night while watching Rocky Horror Picture Show.  I lost count of how many times we did it.  We couldn't stop laughing-it was so much fun!
Paper Dolls by Etsy seller Walker Davis Designs: Riff Raff, Magenta, and Colombia of Rocky Horror Picture Show!
I hope you all have a fantastic weekend!  I can't wait for Monday to get here so that I can reveal the winner of my Oatmeal, Milk, & Honey soap set giveaway.  The raffle closes tonight, so if you haven't had a chance to enter there's still time!  Good luck!

Soap Cute: Giveaway!

As promised earlier this week, I'm back with a giveaway!  My very first one!

In Mondays post I shared a sneak peak of a few soaps I've been working on for my Etsy Shop: Soap Cute, which is scheduled to make it's debut in late September!  I've got a lot ahead of me, but I'm looking forward to it and I can't wait to share all that I've been working on.

Here is what's up for grabs:
Oatmeal, Milk, & Honey Soap Set

This Oatmeal, Milk, & Honey soap set is something that I dreamed up when I purchased a few new silicone molds last week.  I really love the way they turned out, and I can't begin to describe how delicious they smell!  My apartment seriously smells like a bakery since I've been crafting up so much soap!  The bear is made with an oatmeal base which contains real oatmeal-hence the speckled/natural coloration!  The honeycomb pieces are stacked in the photo and are made with a white soap base.  The set is Oatmeal, Milk, & Honey scented.

This is my first ever giveaway and I decided to go with Rafflecopter to see how it worked out!  The giveaway is open until 11:59 PM this Friday, August 2nd.  One winner will be chosen at random and announced on Monday!  I can't wait to see who the winner will be!  Good luck!

a Rafflecopter giveaway

Soap Cute: Prototypes

With my Etsy shop opening date creeping up quick, I feel like I'm so far behind!  I've got until September 22nd to have the following done:
  • Complete 40 designs.  Make, Package, Photograph, & Draft Listings.
  • Design and order labels.
  • Get tax ID and DBA.
  • Open business bank account.
The last two will take no time at all, just a bit of money.  I'm not too worried about those, as I know none of them will be a problem for me.  Finishing at least 40 *approved by me* product designs and labels are the two that are worrying me.  As of now I have about 12 tested and approved.  Friday afternoon I received a giant supply order and have been making prototypes over the past couple of days.  Here are a few:
I'm really happy with the way these little pumpkins turned out.  They're pretty small and I'm considering selling them as a trio as well as part of a Halloween themed mini-soap set that I'm still working on.  I had a bit of the soap left over so I went ahead and tried it out in a new bear mold I recently purchased.  I have a couple of great ideas for the bears that I will be sharing in an upcoming post and possible giveaway.  I can't wait to show you!
As part of my recent supply order, I received a sample of this bronze sparkle mica powder colorant.  My goal here was to create a "Heart Of Gold" soap, and this color turned out really pretty.  They're still a bit translucent, so I will probably up the amount of color I add to the final batch.
I made a batch of these when I first began to play around with soap making.  I'm thinking of selling these in trios of different colors, but can't decide what to go with.  I definitely want to keep the black.  I'm thinking I may try a deep purple/sparkly one, but I can't decide on a third color.  What do you think?

I can not begin to describe how delicious these soaps smell.  My entire apartment smelled like I was baking up pies and berry cobblers last night.  I think that's one of the things I love most about soap making-all of the yummy fragrances!

I've got a lot of designing ahead of me, so I better get back to work.  I hope you are all having a fantastic Monday!

Q&A // 1

What stupid things did you do when you were younger to try to look cooler?
I used to try and dress like I was older and more mature (in a bad way) than I was.  I guess I thought I would look 'cooler' if I dressed in skimpy "dirty old perve look at me!" outfits.  Which was stupid. Not cool.

What gets better with age?
Men.  Actually I'll take that one step further and say men with beards.  I'm a beard-lovin' kinda gal, and men with beards only get better with age.

What is something you've done, just to say you did it?
I shaved my head once.  It's something I always wanted to do so that I could say I did it.  And I'll probably do it again someday.  You can see photos here!

When you were a kid, which cartoon character did you have the hots for, and why?
This is going to sound incredibly strange, but my sister and I used to think the kangaroo in Rescuers Down Under (the one in the poachers dungeon) was super hot...I think we just thought his voice was sexy or something though.  That probably doesn't count since he wasn't human, so I'll say Eric from The Little Mermaid-he's pretty damn hot.

What's the strangest/creepiest experience you've had with a customer?
A guy once bought me a pair of expensive shoes because he overheard me talking to a coworker about my feet hurting due to the cheap shoes I was wearing.  I got to work the next morning and this guy was already in the parking lot (it was like 6:30 in the morning!).  The creepiest part?  They were the right size!  I told him I couldn't accept them and gave them back.

Feel free to take these questions and answer them on your blog!  If you do please send me a link so I can check them out!

Illustration Love: SEM Illustrations

While browsing etsy for cute movie illustrations over the weekend, I fell in love with these from Sarah Michaels of SEM Illustrations.  I love her use of color and these movies are some of my favorites!

When I was little, my dad would take us to the video store every weekend and let us each pick out one movie to rent.  No exaggeration here...I rented The Shining AT LEAST 6-8 times in a row.  My step mom finally told me that the video store said I couldn't rent it anymore, but I think she was just tired of listening to it!  I adore that film-and I'm in love with these illustrations!!!
I'm also a huge fan of The Labyrinth.  Ludo is my favorite!!!  I hope I can purchase a few of these soon-they would be perfect to keep near my computer desk!

The awesomeness doesn't stop here-go check out Sarah's Etsy shop for more!

Our Trip To Rockport

I'm not sure why it took me so long to share these photos, but here are a few snapshots from our trip to Rockport last month!  It was so nice to get away for a few days and relax at the beach.  I think we may take another trip down there in October, which I think will be much nicer as far as the weather goes.  It was so miserably hot AND humid, but I had a great time!

I had absolutely NO luck in my search for seashells this year, but I did find a few other neat things.  My favorites were the crab bits :)

What I love most about Rockport though, is going to the local park and feeding the turtles:

If you missed last years photos, you can see them here, here, and here.

A Themed Wishlist: Phrenology and Such

I recently ordered this Body Of Work poster set from ModCloth and am completely smitten.  I plan on hanging them together either in the living room or the bedroom.  I don't want them to be lonely though, so I'm considering getting a few things to tie the room together.

  1. Foyer Consideration Container.  I could totally use this next to my door to keep my keys in.  Right now I just have a little shelf I keep them on, but this would be perfect on that shelf!
  2. A Head Of Schedule Clock.  I don't currently have a clock on ANY of my walls.  I'm always checking my phone or squinting to make out the time on my cable box.  I think I NEED this-I love the face too-so pretty :)
  3. A Head Of The Class Container. It's so unfortunate that this is out of stock at ModCloth right now :(  I love it so much!  I could use this as a little container for my keys too, but I think it would be so nice for jewelry!  I'll have to keep checking back, I really really want this one!!!

10 Things You Don't Know About Me

This post comes from a tag post done over on Mandy's blog Miss Indie.  I've been so terrible about posting consistently, so I thought this would be something fun and simple to *maybe/hopefully* get me back into the swing of things :)

1) I am the BIGGEST procrastinator I know.  I have list upon list of things to do, but somehow I never get around to doing them.  Current things I'm procrastinating about:
  • Doing the dishes.
  • Cleaning my apartment (it's totally disgusting right now)
  • Starting and finishing each day with a Yoga routine.
2) I want to write a novel or collection of short stories.  I'm thinking something along the lines of thriller/mystery...but cozy mysteries sound fun too.  Add this to my procrastinator list of things that may never happen...but I really do hope I can find the time for this one.

3) I think I'm developing an obsession with Steve Martin.  That guy is the coolest.  Successful actor/comedian/novelist/banjo player?  What an accomplished guy!  Look at these early photos of him I found:

4) My last two years of high school were miserable because I was *literally* afraid to end my unhealthy relationship with my terrible high school boyfriend.  I stopped taking Art (which was my favorite class-I signed up for it every year) because he decided to take it.  Both of my prom nights ended in tears and I hated the experience.  And worst of all...I lost all of my friends, because I only ever made time for him (there were consequences if I didn't).  I wish I had had the balls to end things with him before they got so bad.

5) I desperately want to have Lilac hair.  It's soooo dreamy!  Maybe someday I'll be able to work from home.  If I do, that will be one of the first things I mark off my to-do list.

6) I was a cheerleader in 7th and 8th grade, but I also shaved the underside of my hair and wore wide leg jeans and baggy shirts all the time that first year...the strangest cheerleader I've ever seen lol.

7) I haven't trimmed or cut my hair in over a year now.  I just keep letting it grow.  Every now and then I want to cut it all off, but then I change my mind.  It's awfully pretty when it's long.

8) I want to learn how to do monster makeup.  Have you ever seen the Syfy show Face Off?  Watch it.  It's Amazing!

9) I'm so shy that I sometimes decide not to do things I want or need to do(like take a class or even go to the store alone), because social interaction scares the crap out of me.  I'm always afraid I'm going to say something incredibly stupid or misinterpret something someone says.  It's strange that I do perfectly fine when I interact with customers at work...but if it's not work related...I'm socially retarded.

10) I secretly want to own a 50's style Soda Shop with a little dance floor for all those fun 50s dances.  OMG!  (My first job was waiting tables an independently owned Malt Shop.  I got to dress up like the Pink Ladies from Grease everyday and serve ice cream!)

I tag ANYONE who reads this!  If you decide to do one of your own please leave me a link so I can read it!

Backyard Finds

While doing yard work outside at Matthews over the weekend, we stumbled across some really neat stuff!  What kind of mushroom is this!!???  I've never seen one before, but it's sooo cool!  What a pretty color!
Ohhhh and look at this Caterpillar!  What a bad ass!  There were a whole bunch of them on this one plant in the backyard.  I love the grayish purple stripes and the black spikes are too neat.  I immediately went inside to look it up and found out it's a Gulf Fritillary (the butterfly is also known as the Passion Butterfly).  The spikes are apparently harmless and soft to the touch...though it is poisonous if eaten.  After looking up the butterfly, I remembered posting a photo of one from a hike we went on a while back.  You can see it here
Have you found anything interesting in the back yard lately?

Diorama Photography

I decided randomly today that I wanted to do a quick little diorama photo shoot for fun.  I had a little wooden box so I sized a few pieces of cloud printed scrapbook paper for the sides and back wall and added the mossy ground cover for the bottom.  I strung up a couple of cotton balls for faux clouds and then added a couple of toy dinos :)  This one was super simple, but I'm getting sooo many ideas and really want to get into Diorama Photography.  After the dinos, I decided to take a shot of one of my dried Cicadas as well.

I hope you're all having a wonderful weekend!

Books and Cupcakes

My mom and sister came to visit over the weekend and it was so nice to have a girls night!  It's been a long time since just the three of us have done anything together.  They got here around 3:30 and we headed straight for Barnes & Noble.
We all love going to the bookstore, and it's always a mandatory stop because the nearest bookstore to them is about an hour away!  My mom was super awesome and told us she would buy us each a book if we found one we liked.  I chose this one:
My collection of writing how-to books is growing.  Writing a novel or short story has been something I've always been interested in doing...(or maybe it's just the process of dreaming up characters and plots-I haven't decided).  I found this one to be quite interesting and fun.

After leaving the bookstore we walked across the street to the Cupcakery.  Anytime my mom visits, a stop for cupcakes is a MUST.
This one was my favorite! I can't remember what it was called, and it isn't listed on the online menu...but it was DELICIOUS!  I love the colors too-so pretty!

We stopped at El Fenix after that for an early dinner before heading back to the apartment.  We spent the rest of the evening watching movies while nearly sending ourselves into diabetic comas from eating some of those cupcakes.  Seriously...those cupcakes wore us out!  We ended up calling it a night at about 10:00.  We had a big breakfast at a cafe down the street before they went on their way.  It was so nice having a day for just the three of us.  We definitely need to do it more often!  I'm off to read some of my book now!
